Editorial Satisfaction Program

An Editorial Research Tracking Program for the Publishing

Editorial excellence pays off with advertisers as well as readers.  As reader involvement and satisfaction increases, experience has shown that circulation and advertising sales benefit.

Leonard Kirsch Research equips you and your staff with a powerful tool that serves as a reliable basis for improving your readers' involvement and satisfaction with your publication.

the objective of an Editorial Satisfaction Program (ESP) is to place the pulse of the reader in the editor's hands.  Proper utilization of the research findings can result in greater reader involvement and satisfaction with the publication.  This not only serves the best interests of your readers, but the editorial staff, circulation and sales departments as well.

Typically, a random sample of readers are chosen on an "nth" name basis to represent the publication's circulation.  These studies can be conducted by mail, telephone or personal interview.  However, most of these studies are conducted via mail methodology due to cost considerations.

Each of our studies is custom designed, conducted and analyzed in close consultation with the client.  The questionnaire usually includes questioning in the following areas:

Overall satisfaction rating

Cover interest

Value of cover lines

Interest or satisfaction with each editorial piece/column/type of article

Appeal of graphics

Balance of content -- what readers would like to see more or less of

Issue specific/evaluation of new features/editorial ideas

Demographics

After several issues have been studied, norms are developed to provide a comparative base for the studies.
